Melanotan I (NDP-MSH, [Nle4,D-Phe7]-alpha-MSH) is a synthetic linear tridecapeptide alpha-MSH analog with the sequence Ac-Ser-Tyr-Ser-Nle-Glu-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Gly-Lys-Pro-Val-NH2 (molecular weight ~1646 Da). It was designed with Nle4 and D-Phe7 substitutions and reported to be a highly potent alpha-melanotropin with ultralong activity relative to native alpha-MSH (Sawyer et al., Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 1980, PMID 6777774).
